This fifth commandment is called the “commandment with promise,” because God promised a long life to those who honor their parents. Conversely, if a person dishonors their parents, it leads to a shortening of one’s life.

But then Egypt became decadent—full of themselves under a new pharaoh who did not know how God had blessed them under Joseph, and the children of Israel suffered. When they cried out, God said it was time for them to leave. He delivered His people with great judgments.

Zephaniah is the pre-eminent prophet on the subject of “The Day of the Lord.” When that subject comes up, most believers don’t know how to react to it. This is partly due to how we avoid the subject of the “Day of the Lord” directly.

Have you ever considered what issue could be so powerful to cause your own family members and fellow citizens to hate you so much because you stand for the commandments of God?

Don’t act out of fear; act out of faith and God’s promise. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your strength, and with all your mind. Obey His commandments. Get your Sukkah ready!

Yeshua spoke these words against the religious rulers of his day. These words are also appropriate for countering Maimonides. Maimonides did not have the authority to define a messiah apart from the prophecies and then dismiss Yeshua because He fulfilled the prophecies in Scripture.
