The sages say that Abraham’s relationship with God was more mature and that he was setting an example for how we should walk before God. We should be able to hear God’s instructions and act accordingly, rather than being urged forcefully by a handhold or pulled along by a leash.

Christians will explain that the New Covenant did away with the “Old” Covenant and that Jesus “fulfilled” the Law. They might even throw a bone to you and say something like, “We still keep the moral law, but the ceremonial law is out. Besides, no one can really keep the Law.” Christians who answer this way believe in “Replacement Theology.”

The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1
