The Apocalypse and Shavuot
A biblical apocalypse is not a one-time event. It isn’t the end of the world. It isn’t something we should commercialize or use as a gimmick. It is a transformation of one’s entire perspective that God wants to change, and that should lead to life and the greatness of God being restored to this earth.
Counting the Omer
Each year, according to the Hebrew calendar, we count a set of days after the Passover to the Feast of Weeks, or Shavuot. Not only is there mystery in this fifty-day count, but there is also controversy as to how it should be counted. What exactly is the purpose in this activity? And, what is the dispute concerning its counting?
